Truffle has three assessments you can add to any position: Personality, Work scenarios and Environment fit. Each one is switched on per position and scored on its own.

Assessments add a structured read of how a candidate tends to work, how they approach work situations, and how their working preferences line up with the role. Each one is switched on per position, scored on its own, and shown next to the candidate's resume and interview results. Results inform your review. You make the decision.

## Setting them up

Assessments are switched on in the Build position step of the create-position wizard, with a toggle for each type. A position can run assessments alongside a video interview, or run assessments alone with no video. When a position has no video, the candidate list, review screens, sharing and emails adapt to match.

Truffle suggests which components to run from your position description, and sets the Personality length by role type and seniority. Everything stays switchable. In the Configure screening step, Truffle drafts the assessment content in the background for you to review and change.

## Personality

Personality uses the IPIP (International Personality Item Pool) Big Five, a validated, public-domain personality instrument. It reports traits and tendencies. It does not assign candidates a personality type.

Candidates complete it as part of the screening. Scoring uses weighted tier logic and produces a short summary plus a zone bar for each trait, showing where a candidate aligns or diverges. Results appear on the candidate profile's Assessments tab, and as a Personality card on the Overview tab and in Magic Review.

*Figure: Personality results on the Assessments tab: each trait marked Aligned, Close or Gap against what you asked for, with one trait left unscored because you marked it not important.*

## Work scenarios

Work scenarios is the product's name for Truffle's situational judgment test. Each scenario describes a work situation and offers several ways to respond.

Truffle drafts a set of scenarios for the role. You can swap or remove any of them from the library, and for each one you pick the approach you want your team to take. Truffle suggests that pick, marked `AI suggested`, and you can keep it or choose another.

Candidates see an intro screen, then rank the four response options for each scenario by dragging them into order. Each scenario is marked `Aligned`, `Close`, `Different` or `Opposite` by where they placed the approach you picked, and the set rolls up to a signal tier per candidate. No answer is right in general. The result measures how closely the candidate's approach matches the one you chose. Results show as a card on the Overview tab and as a detail section on the Assessments tab.

## Environment fit

Environment fit compares a candidate's working preferences with how the role actually operates. It draws on realistic job preview principles.

Truffle drafts six Environment fit questions for the role. Each has two opposing work-style directions, and Truffle picks the one the role calls for, tagged `AI suggested`. You can change any pick, swap a question for another from the library, which is grouped by category, or add more, up to ten.

Candidates see an intro screen, then answer `Which sounds more like you?` for each question by choosing between the two options. Scoring counts where the candidate's choices are aligned with the role and where there is a gap, and rolls that up into a signal tier. No percentage is shown. Results appear as a card in Magic Review and on the Assessments tab, with each gap called out.

On the candidate's Assessments tab, a gap opens to show what the role requires, what the candidate chose, and an interview prompt you can use to ask about it.

## Results and signals

Assessment results roll up to a three-tier signal: High, Mid or Low. It reads the same on the candidate list, in Magic Review and on the candidate profile.

When a position uses two or more score types (resume, interview, assessments), the assessment signal is one of the inputs to the Overall signal of Strong, Mixed or Weak. See [How scoring works](https://www.hiretruffle.com/how-it-works/scoring) for how that rollup is shown.

## Time and credits

Build position shows each assessment's time: Personality about 5 minutes, Work scenarios about 6 and Environment fit about 2, so all three together take a candidate about 13 minutes. Personality also comes in two lengths: Standard, 50 questions in about 5 minutes, and Express, 20 questions in about 3. While you set up the position, a budget bar shows the candidate's estimated time and the credits charged as candidates finish each step.

An assessed candidate costs 2 credits, with all three assessments included. Credits come from the same monthly pool as resumes and one-way interviews. You are charged only for a completed assessment. A candidate who never starts or does not finish costs nothing. See [Plans and credits](https://www.hiretruffle.com/how-it-works/credits).

## What it does not do

- Results do not advance, hold or reject anyone. Gaps are points to raise in a conversation. You decide what to do with every candidate.
- Work scenarios and Environment fit are Truffle's own question sets. They are not validated psychometric instruments. Personality is the only one built on a validated instrument.
- Personality does not label a candidate with a personality type.
- AI does not judge assessment answers. Its part is suggesting the setup: the approach to pick for each scenario and default Environment fit questions, which you can change. Personality is scored with weighted tier logic, Work scenarios against your ranking, and Environment fit by counting aligned answers and gaps.
- Environment fit does not show a percentage.
- Results measure alignment with what you set for this role. They are not a rating of the candidate as a person.
